This morning I ran across this blog. It’s a hilarious capture of a free-spirited young mom and her journey as a mother to a three-year-old little girl named Adriana.

Here is a brief piece of her post in which she eventually submitted to Reader’s Digest:

Adriana: Nobody outside thinks I’m pretty!

Me: I’m sorry, what?

Adriana: Nobody outside is lookin’ at me!

Me: But we haven’t even left the house yet!

Adriana: But nobody doesn’t think I’m beautiful!

Me: Everyone thinks you’re beautiful. Why do you think Brian threw snowballs at you yesterday? Because he thinks you’re cute.

Adriana: But nobody even saw my nail polish!

Mark (my husband): Yes, Brian saw it yesterday…

Me: …and the lady at Starbucks commented on it right away!

Mark: That was a lady?

Me: No, a different lady. There was a woman there.

Mark: Oh.

Me: Anyway, everyone thinks you’re beautiful.

Adriana: But nobody thinks my old clothes are pretty.

Alright, now I’m really stumped. How could she be thinking these things? Has advertising somehow infiltrated her three-year-old consciousness? But this is why we don’t watch the Disney channel! She watches only limited amounts of PBS and wears practical but fashionable clothing bought on-sale at The Children’s Place. Where have I gone wrong?

Me: Adriana, life isn’t about being beautiful like that. It’s nice when you have your nails done and your hair looks good and you have new clothes on, but you’re beautiful because you’re a beautiful person. On the inside. So that’s that.

Adriana just smiled and bounced off, back into her bedroom. The gurgling of the coffee maker subsided in favor of the toddler babble I’ve become so accustomed to as my background soundtrack. A ray of sunlight crept in through the window, and peace was restored again.

After reading this I immediately logged into my email and sent the article off to my mom. Here’s what I shared:

Hi mom,

Found this on one of my mommy blog sites this morning.

I SO enjoyed reading this because I can remember the EXACT same conversation once upon a time--as I sat in the back seat of our family car, on the way to preschool, one morning.

I’ll admit, throughout the years I’ve loved the materials things in life that make us feel great. But, for my entire life, I’ve never forgotten the very first time you explained to me the real meaning of being beautiful.

I was a lucky little girl, who will go on to become beautiful women (and hopefully a beautiful mommy myself someday) because of the affirmations from you—my mother.

Thanks for encouraging me to be a beautiful person.

Clearly, I am not a mom—so I am hardly one to provoke comment here—but please, if you are blessed with daughters, teach them the meaning of beauty. The real, soul-empowering, kind-hearted, non-superficial meaning.

As women and young girls today, we are growing up in world where the concept of beauty is distorted and confusing. Where insecurity and peer bullying are tragically stealing the lives of young people, everyday. Teach your children the importance of humility and compassion. Teach them what it means to be beautiful people. They will hear you.

bottom line: take risks.

A. Frank Gehry: Comes from the school of thought that by being ourselves and finding our own way makes us experts in our own work. Gehry revolutionized modern day architecture and design by demonstrating independence and finding his own way. He created a culture of design. He teaches his students that believing in ourselves: our own design {and work} will allows us to live a full-life.

Q. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A. An architect (or most specifically, Barbie dream house designer). I used to spend HOURS creating and coloring floor plans to accomodate her luxurious living-style.

A. I learned how to drive when I was 3 years old, on my dad’s lap in the parking lot of GI Joes. He used to always take me out for frozen yogurt in the evenings and then we’d go to GI Joes and take a spin around the empty lot—been driving ever since!

They say there's nothing quite like the relationship a boy has with his dog.

Well--this weekend, I witnessed the 'falling-in-love' paragon that depicts just that. Casey got a new pup, and her name is Penny.

We found her online through a local Border-Collie rescue site and made an appointment to meet her late Sunday afternoon. After watching her stampede to our welcome and win him over with her puppy kisses and innocent charm--I knew he was done for. I watched him fall madly in love with her.

These past couple weeks I've had the opportunity to be a part of the Miller family's quest to find a new dog. After enduring several weekends of heartache and compassion for these homeless pals, and many 'goodbyes', Penny became a member of their family. It was a special moment for the Miller clan--one that I felt special to be a part of.

Since Penny is a rescue pup, the shelter owners were unable to specify her exact age or date of birth. So, we decided that day, April 10th--Penny's official Miller-family adoption date, would be her new Birthday. Seemed fitting, right?

Here she is with her new boy. Happy Birthday Penny girl! May you have many sweet memories with your new family.

This weekend I helped celebrate the goodbye of a very important person in my life.

Her name is Anne--and, while her official title has been my career mentor these past months, she has also become my dear friend. Anne and I have spent many hours together talking about life, career and happiness--and the importance of finding the balance.

She continues to be such a positive part of my life and I know wherever our lives {and careers} lead us, we will remain great friends.

I will miss you Anne--but I know Seattle has some great adventures in store for you!

remember the anxiety i described in this post?

it was decided that i was in need of some changes. i'll try not to bore you with too many details, but here's a quick run-down of my life since we last left off.

holidays came and went. used two weeks of vacation time. it was great.

attended my first company holiday party. sorority sisters annual panty exchange. got some cute Ugg boots from C for christmas.

on tuesday, december 28th i got in a car accident that almost took my life.

decided i needed to grow the hell up and make things happen for myself.

so i ran a 5k...

bought a pretty new {safe} volvo...

rang in the new year with some great friends.

celebrated my oh-so-young 24th birthday.

got pissed at myself for not accomplishing some goals i had set for myself, exactly one year ago...

so. quit my full-time job as an office clerk to become a public relations intern.

on valentines day, began my new life as an intern. met the other rockstar interns. started my account rotations.

6 weeks into the program--6 weeks to go: continue to be inspired by my colleagues and the work we do everyday.

risky. but well worth it.

so there ya go.

for christmas--instead of consumer luxuries, i ask for things like 'a payment of monthly car insurance' or 'the payoff of a recent medical bill'...

i spend my weekends getting my oil changed or carpets shampooed.

i hear myself say "i'm teaching a workshop next tuesday"

instead of attending a concert, it's easier on my body to just buy the CD.

i get excited about furniture shopping, dry cleaning discounts and tax refund checks.

'vacations' are no longer defined by sandy beaches and pina coladas but rather just simply time out of the office.

my morning routine involves caffeine and NPR.

black friday just seems like total hell.

it is 5am and i am wide awake.

...when i get anxious i can't sleep. sometimes this happens. not often, but every once in a while, it happens.

it is the morning of thanksgiving and am thanking God for the incredible blessings he's given to my life.

here are few things i am grateful for today...

Seattle. C and I have just spent an amazing week in this city. Funny, because a year ago, I was bound & determined to get a job, move here and start my adult life with him. After spending several days in this city, and although I still love it, I can no longer picture our life here. And that's okay, because our life is starting out beautifully in portland. It simply reminds me that things happen as they are supposed to.

My home--in portland. Well, in gresham, rather. I swear it gets bigger each year but continues to feel pretty small town. I am thankful that i grew up in such a beautiful home--filled with so much love.

My amazing girlfriends. There are many of them and the people who know me well, tell me constantly how lucky I am to have them. They are my support, my happiness and my family.

My god-gifted creative talent. With out it, I'd be lost. I am grateful that it has fed my curiosity for life both emotionally and intellectually, and continues to be a significant part of who I am.

My education. Five, hard and extremely fun years later, I have a bachelors degree. But better, I have an education; and intellectual opinions {to feed my sassy demeanor, obviously}. And yes, I've also inherited the monthly payments--but the experience and knowledge, AND job I now have--you just cannot put a price on that.

My mom and dad. Who {now that i am an adult} I've realized, have sacrificed a lot for me and my happiness. Whatever i wanted--they made it happen; I've had opportunities to enhance my artist abilities, play club sports, go to college and travel the world. my life has been pretty great thanks to them.

My best friend C. My life is better with him in it. He makes me laugh harder than anyone and he's the best comfort when i cry. He reminds me everyday of the greatest days of my life and each day, I am grateful that I get to continue to build an amazing life with him.

My health. Often times taken for granted--but extremely grateful to be a young, smart, energetic 23-year old.

My incredible job. I wake up each day and feel lucky to spend my days with talented professionals; who really are the masters of their trade. The transition from college to career may not have been easy--but each day is a new challenge and a true gift that I work{ed} extremely hard to get.

Today my beloved blog turns one year old.

Out of celebration, I have taken time to reflect on this past year as a new blogger and the many, valuable gifts it has given me. As most of you know, I originally started this idea as a way to track the progression of my senior design project and keep in touch with those I do not see too often. However—over these past months, it has evolved into something much greater.

Here are the delightful yet sassy gifts my blogging experience has given me (year one):

1. cOnnEcT wITh LiKe-mINdEd ArTIsTs:

Since I founded Delightfully Sassy I have met many people, who like me, are in love with the blogging community. I have been invited to local events, raised money for charities, created an artistic accreditation and met amazing people—who think a lot like me! For example—have you met my friends Kati and Preppy in Portland?

2. jOiNeD tHe jOUrnALiSm ~~art~~ industry:

Little did I know that when I began creating in this capacity, I would eventually work professionally in journalism. But wait…I went to school for art and design…

Yes, true—but in fact I have learned over this past year, they are alike in many ways: same creative thinking, overindulgence of brainstorming, presentation of ideas--simply different mediums.

3. dRAw A dEscRiPtIvE rEcaP of my life:

It’s like the play-back of an old home video. I get to read my past experiences and relive that state of mind all over again. Like that one time I professed my love for OSU, toasted to my better half, cried about my grandfather, or served this cocktail. Or how about the day I shared my uncertainty about growing up, or yelled ‘WTF’ to my coworker. I’ve written about friendship, Minnie Mouse, sushi etiquette, love stories and new years resolutions and much more.

4. sTAy iN tOuCH with people I don’t see often.

My grandmas’, cousins’, uncles’, old high school boyfriends’, babysitter’s mom reads Delightfully Sassy! They get to experience what I’m thinking and feeling. This was a little strange to me at first, but over time I’ve learned to embrace and take advantage of it. Now—I love my readers, no matter who they are!

5. sTaNd Up fOr tHiNgS i bEliEvE iN.

Because blogging is a public activity I get to go live with my opinions, thoughts and ideas. It has allowed me to develop a voice of my own. It’s my forum; I can say whatever I want! However, with that said, I have also learned the importance of ‘accountability’. Because I am creating in public domain the things I say can {literally, in the court of law} be held against me. It has taught me to be thoughtful about how I express myself—online.

6. eXeRciSe mY mINd:

Not only am I constantly thinking about the content of my next post, but I am also taking advantage of learning and reading other blogger’s thoughts and ideas. This is an important skill to any artist. It’s called research. I exercise my mind—daily, by following other bloggers, listening to the news, reading public forums and scanning popular publications from around the world. I can speak to our present culture because I’ve watched the trends, read the news and constantly update my tweetdeck.

7. Helped with gOaL sEttINg aNd aChiEvEmEnT:

Last week I was reminded of my blog’s birth date. So, I decided to write a ‘toast to the post’ blog in celebration. I thought about the theme, developed the content and now I’m executing the action. Moving phases: goal statementàgoal developmentàgoal completion. Done & done.

8. Believe it or not—I’ve pRogReSSed aS a wRiTeR:

Technically and creatively. I think, practice makes perfect, or something like that? The great thing about blog writing: there are no right {or wrong} ways of expression; as long as you have well-developed content. I, at least try to double-check my spelling…

9. iNdUcEd cUriOsiTy:

It has certainly taught me to see the world differently.

I once heard someone discuss the value of blogging and they said ‘blogging is great because other people can see how you think’. It’s exactly right—I can comment, discuss, question or praise whatever I want. I create the content.

10. See tHe pRogReSSiOn oF mY LiFe aRtiStiCallY, iNteLLecTuAlly aNd emOtioNallY:

This is perhaps the best gift my blog has given me. I enjoy looking back at my old posts and remembering exactly how I was feeling that day. Then, to see how far I’ve come since then… DEVELOPMENT. The most enjoyable thing is to look back on my experience graduating from college and entering the ‘real world’. I truly get to measure my accomplishments.

Although during this past year I’ve blogged about my experiences, feelings and reactions to the world around me, the real reason behind creating a successful personal blog is not me--It’s you.

After one year of blogging joy; a year filled with challenges, successes and much personal growth, I can truly say it’s been a wonderful journey. Thank you endlessly for your support.

Dear Grandpa D,

Today is the 3-year anniversary since you said goodbye to us here on earth and joined our heavenly father. Not a single day does by that I don’t miss you. I still see you in my dreams every once in a while, where you smile at me and I know you are happy and safe and missing me. I wake up and I thank God, each time, for giving me that gift.

I wish you were still here. I know Mom still really misses you during the Holidays. Tanner received his Eagle that spring after you passed and dedicated his ceremony in your memory. We all cried as he spoke of your remembrance and continued encouragement throughout our lives. You would have been very proud of him.

Hunting season began this weekend and of course it only made me think of you. Dad has a trip planned for elk weekend; it’s been years. It reminds me of being a little girl again— seeing him come home after a long, hunting weekend away with you.

Every year I get anxious for a second when the leaves start to turn and the cold air arrives because I know fall is here. It’s only a reminder of the countdown of days until we think about that cold, awful day in October—we endured years ago. I still cry some days when I think about how broken my heart when I found out you were gone.

I was your little girl. I was spoiled and loved every second by you and I believe that my life is better for it. I get sad when I think about not being able to dance with you at my wedding. But then, I smile; when I remember the big, tough guardian angel I now have to walk beside me, forever. I graduated from college this year—I wish you could have been there, you would have been so proud of me. GO BEAVS, right!?!

These past two years, on your anniversary, I have started the tradition of taking a shot of whisky in your honor, and today at dinner will be no different. Here’s to you Grandpa and the many happy years you spent here on earth…

I am thinking about you today and most of all remembering this was the last day we spent together; drinking whisky & water and dancing at Courtney’s wedding to Eric Clapton. I hope, as long as I live—I never forget that wonderful memory.

I believe that when we die we go someplace peaceful that keeps us young and celebrating with those who have arrived there before us. I can’t wait to see you there someday.

As apart of my yearly career development goals in PR, I've decided to improve and expand my social media skills. I have been working in strategic communications for 7 months now—long enough to realize the reality of social media and it's contributions to the future of the marketing industry.

So—in an effort to expand my social media knowledge I decided to create a twitter account. @Hollp. …and I began to tweet.

…and followed other’s tweets.

…and now I can’t stop tweeting and retweeting!

Twitter, much like facebook has essentially evolved into a new language for our culture. It is changing the way we send and receive our daily news and messages.

Today was the release of the ‘new’ twitter. As a new member to the twitter world—I have to say, I am lovin’ it! More obscure ‘what’s happening’ tweet box, real names appear, new tweet overlay, Flickr set support, cleaner message area, keyboard shortcuts and many more twitter treats have completed this new and improved experience. NOW—I can get my information faster and clearer and retweet and update more efficiently.

Here are the top 5 things I learned this afternoon via the ‘new’ Twitter:

1. According to Vanity Fair: Vice President, Joe Bidden is saying questionable things during his Midwestern tour this week. The Washington Street Journal also commented and interpreted his pronouncement as “tough love”.

2. According to an article about ‘mommybloggers’, Women are the new online influencers. They makeup 85% of all brand purchases in the US. In less than 10 years women will control 2/3 of consumer wealth in the US with $40 trillion of purchasing power potential. 42+ million women are involved in social media, weekly and 92% of them pass along info about deals to others. 1/2 are moms and 11.5 million are active bloggers.

3. My coworker killed a wasp in the 3^rd floor SW quadrant. Her HR teammates were extremely appreciative.

4. Chad Ochocinco keeps his off the field ‘equipment’ clean with Axe. (yes—that was his exact tweet…)

5. Anybody who has followed Chad Henne’s career knows how resilient he can be. “If things go wrong on the field—he can shake them off pretty quickly” Head Coach, Tony Sparano if the first to support this idea. (hoping this one will earn me some points with Casey...)

every now and again I come across a composition of words or phrases I feel are worth repeating. have you ever thought about the power and emotion that can be articulated through the perfect execution of certain words?

it's amazing to me how the construction of text and/or images can leave such a significant impression on us--how they can describe exactly how we feel or make us feel a certain way. have you ever thought about this?

i found this sometime ago and felt that it describes exactly how i've been feeling lately about change...

"Planning on promises is foolish because they can be broken. Living on fate, faith and the expectation that every day may be your last ensures that we will make the most out of your time here and follow the path that God has set out for us. Trusting our gut and following that path--as unstable as it may seem, will lead us to the top. God doesn't make mountains we can't climb. this past year, becoming a blogger, I've began to really consider the written text a true medium of art. perhaps this is why people choose to dedicate their professional lives to it... much like an artist--to evoke an emotion, an opinion or a reaction...

becoming an engaged writer has certainly changed the way i look at the world. it has changed the way i think and most importantly--it has changed the way i create.

So, I may as well confess to you now--because i'm sure you will hear about it again over the next several months...but I have decided to practice shop{i}bacy; which is a word i just created meaning to abstain from all things shopping.

that's right. no shopping for (insert gasp now)...

...for 3 months. well, at least 3 months. that is the preliminary time frame i have chosen--but we will reevaluate the situation of things when we get to that point.

going through this experience, i must admit--some days are easier than most but i can proudly say, as of yesterday--i am 30 days sober. yay me.

today was not so easy. i mean really--with emails like gilt groupe, jcrew and banana republic flaunting their 'never before seen' sales, daily as i sit down at my computer, how does one survive in this sort of environment? I mean really?...

this is what i really, really wanted to buy today...

...and, truth be told, i'd probably buy this one too...

...but i didn't. because i made a vow to become a changed, money-saving, free from consumer goods, non-impulse-buying woman and i hold strong and true to my commitment. for now.

in any event, i think i'll take my martini extra dry tonight...

Good morning Delightfully Sassy readers,

Alongside my sincere apologies for neglect and abandoment these past months, I want to also announce my return to the blog. Yes, I am aware it's been quite some time since my last post (6 months to be exact) but I am excited and energized to pick up where I last left you.

A lot of transitions have occured in my life since we last spoke, which I am certain will make me a better communicator this time around. I am taking the weekend to redesign Delightfully Sassy and launch a new site to house my future content and publishings. I will annouce it's arrival date soon. For now, a tenitive date has been set for September 7, 2010.

Some things I have learned so far in my big-girl life... (yes, it's only been two weeks but...)

I can tell you:

1. The cuter the shoe...the deadlier they usually are.

2. I have officially boarded the career choo-choo train. Things are going a little slow right now but work is all I can think about...

3. I have become very addicted to my blackberry. Wait, crackberry? Actually, come to think of it--that happened before 'big girl life'.

4. I am excited about making new friends at work!

5. It's important to aviod I-84 as much as possible duing the hours of 7-8:30 a.m. and 5- 6:30 p.m.

6. Not only is caffine essential to my energy levels but it also puts me in an excellent mood.

7. Now I can understand why my mom comes home every 6 months and says "I need a vacation"....

8. Paying bills and organizing things like doctor and dentist appointments can be a very daunting task.

9. I am very much a routine/scheduling kind-of-person. It's just how I like things... also, I am learning that I perform very well under pressure...

10. On a more positive note: I love my new job and I am ready for summer!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for being patient with me this past week has I get settled into my new job, city and living situation. I am almost completely moved home and have worked 50+ hours at WE so far!

Yay!

I am on my way to my brother's birthday party for the evening but PROMISE to fill you in tonight when I get home and will continue to actively and regularly update my blog.

I hope everything is going great with all of you! Yay to those of you who took time to celebrate spring break, especially if you went someplace with sunshine.

I did it. I graduated. I am officially an Oregon State Alumni. I finished my final project and presentation yesterday afternoon, I'm moving to Portland tomorrow and starting my new J-O-B on Monday.

It hasn't hit me yet that everything will be different, but I know it's coming. I'm a little sad, kinda nervous, anxious and overwhelmed but mostly very excited for the new phase of my life.

Part of the reason I starting this blog was to recognize and commentate about other artists. To those of you apart of an art industry, you understand the importance of exposure to the community. It is my intension and delight to recognize other artists so we can learn from and inspire one another.

I want to congratulate my good friend Matt Burns on his first Art show, which took place this past week. He is currently finishing his Bachelor of Fine Arts and displayed his work to introduce himself as an artist to the community.

MB’s works are mostly influenced by the culture and content of urban street art. He is incredibly talented, aware and passionate about what he creates. Although most of his work is produced in acrylic and spray paint, he is an artist of many mediums including: drawing, photography and tattoo art. This past month Mb also donated a piece to help raise money for Haiti.

Congratulations Matt Burns. Your talent and artistic outlook on our culture will provide a bright future!

Senior skip day.

This weekend I will be doing a lot of irresponsible college-student, celebratory activities on behalf of my final weekend as a college student. Next thursday I will have to say goodbye to my comfortable, fun, do-what-i-want lifestyle and prepare for the next chapter of my life: working girl!

Which- don't get me wrong, I am very excited about.... but, also nervous.

Anyway, this weekend is about celebrating and saying goodbye to a great college town, experience and the fabulous memories that OSU has given me these past 41/2 years.

To kick off the weekend right, we've decided to have a senior skip day (hopefully my professor doesn't find this...) We've decided to spend the afternoon wine tasting in the beautiful, Oregon Willamette Valley vineyards.

Delightfully Sassy's Postsecret Project

I think it's time to present, to my blog world, the little project I have been working on lately...

In inspiration of Frank Warren and his weekly Postsecret blog, I decided to do something similar. I sent out a mass mailer to 100 of my closest female friends and family, all different ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles describing the project, the inspiration and this blog.

Just like Frank Warren's Postsecret Project, I have asked them to send me their secrets via post mail. In every letter I included a postmarked, return-addressed envelope with a provided 3x5 notecard for their individual secrets. Each secret has been sent to me anonymously; I have no idea where they are coming from.

I wanted to see if this idea would make as big of an impact in my network as Frank Warren has made on the world. I must say, I am quite impressed with the secrets I have received thus far. Thank you to those of you who have participated. I have received several and will begin scanning and posting them tomorrow.

**This is also a reminder to those of you who received my letter. Send me your secret soon because in two weeks I will no longer be living at this address. So, don't forget!

I can't wait to share your secrets. I have laughed, cried and empathized with all i've received and I am sure you all will too. I hope you are excited, stay tuned...

Well. It happened...

Opportunity came--a knockin' and I couldn't be happier!

After two weeks, three nervous interviews, reference checks and days that seemed like years...

This afternoon I accepted a J-O-B offer with Waggener Edstrom Worldwide public relations agency! In two weeks, I will be graduating from College, Moving to Portland and meeting the rest of the Operations team at WE. It was a fantastic feeling and I can't wait for what's to come next!

I told you. BIG things have been happening in my life lately.

This one fills my heart today...

The fabulous female whom I've been thinking of lately is my amazing friend Kelly.

Kelly is a very good friend and sorority sister, who received some terrible news earlier this week.

Here's is what I know so far, in the short life i've lived... I have learned there is nothing more important than family. I have learned that the power of belief and hope and support from those we love are the only things that get us through our toughest times. I have learned that as much as I want to change the world for one person, all i can do is love and support them.

Hello DS readers!

I know I have been away for a few days and I apologize! I have been doing some big things with my life lately, which I will share more about soon!

I'm not sure what it is, but something is definitely in the air...

My anxiety has taken a not-so-welcomed stay lately and I have a feeling it wont be leaving anytime soon...

I'm not sure if it's the Haiti tragedy, the failed American health-care system, President Obama's slipping popularity, or my personal issues with the unemployment status in the state of Oregon. But, I think we all, myself especially, could use a dose of encouragement--and soon.

These past few weeks have been a true test of my character--and patience... I might add. I have felt many emotions: excited, ambitious, positive, disappointed, confused, regretful, TIRED, and overwhelmed with anxiety about the fate of my professional future.

where are you, opportunity? i'm ready...

Last Friday night, while I was sitting at home, marinating in my anxiety and disappointing disposition, I tuned in to the final 'Tonight Show' with Conan O'Brien on NBC. It was funny, as usual, but the best part was the comedian's profound, heart-felt words to his viewers and NBC at the conclusion of his show. The politics involving late-night talk shows, lately, has been quite controversial--so, as you can imagine, a message of this kind, spoke volumes of his character.

Last week, O'Brien (who recently admitted having 'the best job in the world') allegedly walked away from the network after they reportedly cut his job out from under him. But, in the final moments of his show, he said something that I believe is worth repeating.

After genuinely thanking NBC for the past 20 years of opportunity, O'Brien reached out to his viewers with a special piece of advice...

"And finally, I have to say something to our fans. The massive outpouring of support and passion from so many people has been overwhelming. The rallies, the signs, all the goofy, outrageous creativity on the internet, and the fact that people have traveled long distances and camped out all night in the pouring rain to be in our audience, made a sad situation joyous and inspirational.

To all the young people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I'll think about it for the rest of my life. All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.

Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen, I promise you."

And so--have you ever experienced anything like this?

I mean...It very well may have been my silly imagination, because it has certainly misled me before...

But I like to think that last Friday night, when I was at home in my flannel pajamas, searching Craigslist and internet job postings for some more opportunity-- Conan O'Brien spoke to me. His works gave me some peace and sense of encouragement, when I needed it the most.

I woke up Saturday morning feeling like maybe, if I keep thinking positively and working hard for what I want, maybe...good things will happen to me too.

Maybe opportunity could finally come knocking at my door...?

Lately, my biggest struggle is the lack of job insurence.

ugh.

The main concern is that, in five weeks, I will have a degree for an industry in which, currently has no growing demand. At least not in Portland... or the entire Pacific Northwest, really.

I've been thinking a lot about the fate of my professional future.

I am having to consider a lot of alternatives. Each day I continue to positively talk my way through this agonizing process. I am trying to wrap my mind around other possibilities.

Above all, I am a creator. I am a thinker and a problem solver and I believe in inspiring innovation.

Maybe, I am not meant to design now...? Maybe I need to consider my other strengths and skills...? Maybe it's not my time?

I can do this. I can do this...

I am so happy to be back on the blog radar to spend some quality time with Delightfully Sassy. And, of course many more of my favorite blogosphere friends!

However, here are some highlights of my life the past couple weeks:

1.) Birthday- was a couple of weeks ago and It was SUCH a great week! Yes, I celebrated for an entire week! I spent the day of my birthday working in the morning, wrote a cover letter for a job at Disney in the afternoon, and had a small celebration with friends for dinner.

The day after, a bunch of my girlfriends took me out on the town for some cocktails and fun!

On Saturday night I had a wonderful seafood dinner with my family...

And on Sunday, my sorority pledge class, and I, had some delicious dinner and drinks at the famous Montage restaurant in Portland. Such a great time! Here we are...11 of us...

2.) I've been thinking a lot about the people of Haiti. Every time I pick up a newspaper or sign on to my facebook, I see the devastation the earthquake has caused. It's incredibly sad and I wish I had enough money to re-build the entire community for those poor people. My heart seriously goes out to them all!

3.) I have been spending a lot of great, quality time with my roommate Erica. We've cooked together, drank together, been sick together, napped together, watching several movies together, and online shopped together all within the past 2 weeks. I've enjoyed every minute- she is a fabulous friend and roommate!

4.) I've been in the process of making Casey a very unique Valentines day present. I can't discuss much about it, but it's the best present i've gotten him yet! I cant wait until he sees it.

5.) I've been Dieting. Well.... more like detoxing. It's been for the best... trust me. In all actuality, I HAVE been eating a lot better the past few weeks...with some minor frozen yogurt setbacks. whooops.

6.) I have become quite the work-a-holic lately. I've been doing a lot of Career Outreach stuff around the OSU community; including a TON of public speaking engagements. I've been promoting OSU career resources and discussing different tools to make yourself marketable in this economy.

Also, we have been super busy planning the Non-profit Career Expo, going on tomorrow in the MU basement. AND the...OSU Career Fair/Engineering Fair February 16th & 17th. It's a lot of work, but totally worth it!

7.) I have a new design project. It's a Healthcare Project featuring a renovation of the children's wing at the Newberg Providence Hospital in Newberg, Oregon. 8.) Measures 66 & 67 passed in the state of Oregon, as of this morning. I'm not excited about it. I voted "NO" on the measures. I believe the bill was poorly written and the State Legislature is horrible at state funding and budgeting. What needs to be done... I believe is...they need to go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate their budgets.

Now, we are taxing more money for small businesses, which will eventually lead to more bankruptcy and unemployment for our poor, little, beaver state. (sigh)...

On a more positive note....

9.) I have been working a TON on Job Applications and my Portfolio to send out to companies. I really want to create a brand for my name and market myself in a creative, professional way. So far, my materials have developed well...but, no interviews yet. I'm trying to stay patient and....how did my mother put it? ......"optimistically hopeful".

I hope something comes of all my hard work soon.

10.) I have been sleeping a lot lately. I honestly don't know what's wrong with me, but I have been tired for a week straight! Yesterday I didn't wake up until 2 pm!! WHAT!!?? I haven't slept that long, for like...ever! It was very strange. I guess my body just needs some rest. I am a much happier person when I get my rest.

Help for Haiti

For those of us from the northwest, this one hits especially hard...

One of our own, Yvenson Bernard, former OSU running back and a native of Haiti, has reached out to former colleagues and friends to gather donations for his home country. Yvenson plans to travel to Haiti in two weeks and bring donations to the earthquake destroyed country. He wrote the following e-mail to request support:

Hello everyone,

As you have heard Haiti had a catastrophic earthquake this week. My family and I are from Haiti and much of my family is still living there now so I am starting a Haiti Relief Fundraiser. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, so relief is absolutely needed for survival!

We are accepting new hygiene products, all types of new and used clothing and shoes, as well as money donations. I am traveling to Haiti in two weeks to respond to this tragedy. All proceeds go to Haiti Relief! Any help would be appreciated! Thank you SO much and God Bless.

Today is my big 2-3!! My only Birthday wish this year is to hear from all those I love most in this world. :) That's always my favorite part about Birthdays.

My roommate, Erica and I have had the worst time sleeping lately.

This morning we conversed about our sleeping experiences the past few days and both agreed that today was going to be especially difficult to get through. We both just need a good-nights sleep. bad.

So, remember the weekly feature I began last week?

This week my fabulous, fascinating, friend is my big sister, Anne.

Well, She's actually my sorority big sister, but a fabulous big sister, nonetheless. She is the closest I will ever come to having a sister of my own.

I chose Anne this week because of some special memories that evoked wistful emotion this past weekend. It was sorority initiation and I couldn't help but think of my initiation memories and spending them with my new big sister, Anne. It was a wonderful memory that I know I will never forget.

In the light of being inspired this week, I have decided to display a weekly feature. I have been a lucky woman, raised by powerful, successful, fabulously-fun women, who have all positively contributed to my life. I have spent my life being inspired by woman; the aspirations they seek and the support they provide. I've decided to write a column each week, emphasizing a woman who has, in some way, inspired my life.

This week the fabulous, fascinating, female is one of my great girlfriends, and sorority sister, Mallory. Today is her Birthday and I wish I was in Portland so I could celebrate with her over some margaritas. Don't worry Mal, I'll make it up to you...I promise!
